I’d like you all to say a big “Hi” to my new family. Conor & I you already know, my girlfriend Treena and her two fantastic girls, Francesca & Georgina. (Francesca’s in front of her Mum!!)
Treena & I met in 2008 where we both work, at a charity called MacIntyre. We’d been chatting for a while beforehand on Facebook, where we found, amongst other things, we both liked similar music. Treena told me about her favourite band Puressence, which I had to admit at the time I hadn’t heard of. Treena lent me a couple of their albums, which I really liked, and led onto us chatting more and more. Treena will tell you that she calls me ‘Shy Boy’, which she still has me down as in her mobile phone, because I wasn’t particularly quick on the uptake when it came to asking her out. But I did, eventually, and I’m so glad I did.
Our first date was on 17th July 2008 and we had a lovely meal at Naidni, Stony Stratford on a Thursday evening. I remember it like it was yesterday. Both Treena & I were both nervous, worried that we would meet up and not find things to talk about, but I’m glad to say that didn’t happen and we chatted all evening. Treena told me about her days as a part time band manager, where she would arrange gigs at local venues, I told her I’d never met a band manager before. I didn’t want the night to end, but unfortunately it had to. It wasn’t long after that we decided to meet up at Willen Lake with our kids on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I have to say I was pretty nervous again, hoping that we would all get along. The kids were all shy at first, which is to be expected but they relaxed and got on with each other so well. It was a beautiful day, we just chilled out and walked around the lake. Towards the end of the day Conor and Georgina were happily playing together with the stones on the path while Treena & I enjoyed a drink. I have to say the girls are absolutely fantastic, so full of life.
Before we started going out together, Sam who works with Treena in Office Services had been trying to get us together. We never told her that we’d started seeing each other, but Sam still kept asking me when I was going to ask Treena out. So we decided to wind her up and we kept it secret that we were dating. Sam kept telling me that when I did ask Treena out, that I had to buy her a bunch of flowers. On 2nd September Treena, me and few guys from Office Services went to a charity curry quiz in Stony Stratford. This was the perfect opportunity to ‘come clean’ about our relationship. By that time Treena & I had been out six times, so we bought Sam six bunches of flowers. Before we even got to the restaurant Sam saw us through the window but she didn’t see the six bunches of flowers. When we gave them to her and told how long we’d been seeing each other, all she said was “You f*ckers!” She hardly spoke to us for the rest of the night, which is the first and only time I’ve ever experienced that!
I love Treena so much. I may have been a little slow on the uptake when it came to asking Treena out on a date, but I’m soooooo glad I did. She’s the best thing to have happened to me and I want us to grow old together!
