Zakk Wylde<\/a> was the latest guest on Full Metal Jackie\u2019s weekend radio program. The legendary six-stringer briefly\u00a0discussed rejoining Ozzy Osbourne<\/a>\u2018s band, already hamming it up like the old days with the Prince of Darkness. He expounded on how his Black Sabbath<\/a> tribute band, Zakk Sabbath<\/a>, came about and even revealed that Black Label Society<\/a> have finished up their new album, which is expected to arrive in 2018. Check out the chat below.<\/em><\/p>\n

Well, so it was obviously really big news when it was announced that you\u2019ve rejoined Ozzy\u2019s band. Why do you think people love the two of you together so much?<\/strong><\/p>\n

You know he called and said, \u201cZakk, you look like you could use some work. You know I\u2019m looking forward to the training sessions, the powerlifting training sessions that we\u2019ve had in the past. So you know he\u00a0said, \u201cIt looks like your uterus can come up,\u201d and so it will be uterus deadlift and a whole bunch of other things. I\u2019m definitely looking forward to and then we\u2019re definitely going to play some music in between the heavy workout you know, the powerlifting sets that we will be doing. Those are always good times.<\/p>\n

I assume that you were you were as happy as we were that you got the call.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yeah I think you all were just \u2014 Mom, Mrs. O [Sharon Osbourne<\/a>] just called the house and she was just like, \u201cZakky, you know, [are we going to wind up] doing this thing?\u201d I was like, \u201cYeah of course.\u201d And so like I said I\u2019m always there for them. I mean, I\u2019m good buddies with Gus [G.]<\/a> too. Gus is phenomenal and he\u2019s a brother and he\u2019s super cool. My relationship with Ozz and mom is just \u2014 if Gus\u2019 wife was pregnant and he had to be home and they wanted me to come out on the road for two weeks, I\u2019d be like, \u201cJust give me the setlist and I\u2019ll come out and cover Gus until he gets back out.\u201d So that\u2019s the way it\u2019s always been.<\/p>\n

Zakk, you\u2019ve spent a fair amount of your career playing with Ozzy. What do you miss most when you\u2019re not making music with him?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, I mean I think what anybody misses you know when you\u2019re with the band and you\u2019re with your brothers it\u2019s just all your sisters I mean whoever you know whoever is in the band it\u2019s just the camaraderie and just everybody hanging together would have a good time. I always said with Ozz it was a miracle anything ever got done because we were always cracking up all the time.<\/p>\n

It always seemed like you guys are family.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yeah, without a doubt. [Ozzy] is the godfather of our oldest boy, Jessie John\u00a0Michael, who he\u2019s named after. I think it\u2019s just hanging out and having a good time and just cracking up and talking about just taking the piss out of everything and taking the piss out of yourself. So I\u2019m looking forward to seeing the boss again and then jamming with the guys. So I said I\u2019m buddies with all the guys. So it\u2019s just going to be \u201clet the comedy begin once again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zakk, you recently finished up a Zakk Sabbath tour, and there is also a limited edition live Zakk Sabbath album. What makes playing a full set of Black Sabbath songs so much fun for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I mean it all started when we were doing this metal all stars thing. And so whenever we would get together it was just me and Blasko<\/a> whenever we\u2019d do these things. It was just a great excuse for us to get together and jam. But the whole thing is \u2014 what it would always come down to is, because we always have a different drummer each time, we ended up doing it. So it was like I said, we don\u2019t have to do a rehearsals.<\/p>\n

So when we all get together we\u2019ll just run it over to soundcheck and then at night we\u2019ll\u00a0do the show. So just, like, the common denominator. If you\u2019re a classical musician you know you know something from the big three, so you could say between Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, it\u2019s part of your education. Playing hard rock and everything like that \u2014 Sabbath \u2014 is part of your education.<\/p>\n

Everybody knows Sabbath\u2019s songs. It would always come down to do how to play \u201cN.I.B.,\u201d \u201cWar Pigs\u201d and stuff like that \u2014 so \u201cSnowblind\u201d or anything like that. So that\u2019s how it came about and then Blasko and I would say, whenever we were getting together, \u201cWell what songs do you want to do?\u201d It\u2019s just like,\u201dLet\u2019s do the Zakk Sabbath set.\u201d So that\u2019s how it came about. Then we we ended up going out with Billy Morrison and the guys when they were doing the Royal Machines. We ended up playing a New Year\u2019s Eve gig with them. So we actually did a full set instead of just doing five songs or something like that. And from there it\u2019s just going out \u2014 it\u2019s so different than us playing at high school parties when we were in high school except we\u2019re doing all Sabbath. It was a blast for sure.<\/p>\n

Going to the show just looks like going to a party.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s it, it\u2019s the high school Tupperware keg party.<\/p>\n

Last year,\u00a0Book of Shadows II<\/em> revisited an acoustic based style of music that a lot of people, including myself, like hearing you do. What\u2019s fulfilling about that type of music compared to the heavier music you\u2019re known for?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always loved the mellow stuff as much as the heavy stuff. It\u2019s like the whole thing with [Led] Zeppelin<\/a>. I love listening to \u201cGoing to California\u201d just as much as I love listening to them doing \u201cBlack Dog.\u201d I\u2019ve always listened to the mellow stuff, whether it\u2019s The Band, Van Morrison, Sam Cooke \u2014 stuff like that. Elton [John], The Eagles<\/a>, down to The Allman Brothers<\/a> or [Lynyrd] Skynyrd<\/a> when they are doing the mellow stuff. So, it\u2019s always been there. Even all the years for Ozzy down to No Rest for the Wicked<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 we were\u00a0doing long drives and we\u2019d just be upfront solving the world\u2019s problems listening to mellow tunes. It\u2019s just my love for that music.<\/p>\n

So far 2017 has been devoted to the Experience Hendrix Tour and Zakk Sabbath with some Ozzy dates this summer. Where does Black Label Society fit into this year\u2019s schedule?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In between the breaks and in between my nail appointments, the shaving of my legs, we\u2019ve actually made another Black Label album. So that\u2019ll be coming out in the new year. We gotta pick our spots where we want to put records in there. So the whole thing is, we were in The Black Vatican, we made another album so that\u2019ll be coming out in the new year and then the Black Label Armada will start rolling in the new year.<\/p>\n

Zakk, you\u2019ve never been shy about making fun of yourself. Especially some of your Twitter video posts. How much time \u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n

I look in the mirror every morning and it\u2019s a gift that just keeps on giving. [laughs]<\/p>\n

How much time, seriously, goes into thinking up this\u00a0funny content to post? Does it just come to you? Do you spend a lot of time on this?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes. Nah, we\u2019re just sitting around going, \u201clet\u2019s just post this right now.\u201d So that\u2019s about how much time it takes \u2014 just like that.<\/p>\n

Your sense of humor is something that we all love about you. [laughs]<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s what I tell the immortal beloved. I say to Barb every morning when she wakes up, I go, \u201cYou\u2019re the lucky winner! You get all this and more!\u201d [laughs]<\/p>\n

We look forward seeing you out with Ozzy and of course the Black Label Society stuff that is to come. Zakk, it is always a pleasure.<\/strong><\/p>\n
